It is classified based on the genetic or antigen relationship between the donor and the recipients as:
1. Autograft : Tissue of one site engrafted to another site in the same individual.
2. Isograft : Graft placed on another individual of the same genetic Constitution eg. monozygous twins
3. Allografts : Graft transfer between two genetically different members of the same species.
4. Xenografts : Grafts between members of different Species.
Autografts and Isografts are usually accepted and survive causing a minimum inflammatory reaction.
Allografts and Xenografts usually undergo necrosis and are rejected due to genetic and antigenic incompability.
